Places and People

Campbelltown in the Macarthur region of south west Sydney was, in colonial days, one of the first “towns” developing from the growth in population of the colony. Today, just as they were in those colonial times, people are looking for a place to live and build their lives, Campbelltown continues to be one of the fastest growing population regions in New South Wales. Our historical society was formed to document that development for the benefit of all, particularly the people who come here to live.

As an historical society we strive to preserve our notable treasures, not only those from the past, but those we see around us today. Our treasures are not only the significant colonial buildings and artefacts, or the natural beauty and resources we have helped preserve, they are also the memory, knowledge, and the accomplishments of the people who lived here and created the diverse society we enjoy today.

The information and photographs in this section of the CAHS website are only a part of the story of this region. There are many more places and people that contribute to the character of our local environment and culture. Further information is to be found by contacting the societies researchers, should you have stories of places and people in this region and wish to contribute, please let us know.
